1. _____ Rita Skeeter exacts her written revenge on Hermione for sassing her in Hogsmeade; the Daily Prophet prints “Harry Potter’s Secret Heartache” painting her as what Ron calls “a scarlet woman” and the hate mail arrives in droves.
2. _____ Snape threatens Harry with Veritaserum because he is certain Harry is stealing things from his supply room. Harry overhears Professors Karkaroff and Snape confer urgently about something on Igor’s right inner forearm.
3. _____ Harry, Ron, and Hermione meet Padfoot outside Hogsmeade. They follow Sirius in dog form up to his cave hide-out, where he devours the food they’ve brought for him. Buckbeak eats the bones.
4. _____ Sirius reveals that it was Crouch who sent him to Azkaban – without a trial – but that this Minister of Magic wannabe paid a steep price for his ambitions. His son was revealed to be a Death Eater, sent to Azkaban, and his wife and boy died.

6. _____ Ron, Harry, and Hermione visit the Hogwarts kitchens to give Dobby his socks for saving Harry’s skin in the Second Task. Winky has turned into a drunken mess but she still is not revealing the secrets of her Master, Barty Crouch
7. _____ Hermione gets hit with hate mail containing “undiluted bubotuber puss” but avoids the worst burns of handling an exploding Howler that goes off in Ron’s face. “I’ll get that Skeeter woman if it’s the last thing I do,” she vows.
8. _____ Hagrid finds a Magical Creature everyone loves: treasure-finding Nifflers. Ron, unfortunately, finds out that the World Cup gold was leprechaun money that disappears after a few hours. “I hate being poor.”
9. _____ Ludo Bagman shows the Tri-Wizard Champions the scene of the Third Task: the Hogwarts Quidditch Field transformed into a giant hedge maze. Bagman offers to help Harry but he begs off to practice spells with Krum.
10. _____ Barty Crouch appears in the Forbidden Forest and, more than half out of his mind, begs to be taken to Dumbledore. Harry runs for the Headmaster but arrives back too late. Crouch has disappeared, Krum is out cold, and there is no trail in the woods

What are Sirius’ prejudices against Severus and Barty Crouch?
Severus was a Death Eater, Sirius believes, but he struggles with the thought that Dumbledore would have ever hired a wizard who had been a Death Eater. Crouch put Sirius in jail without a trial in the panic of Voldemort’s rise to power. Hard for Sirius to forget all those years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit…
His thoughts about Moody?
Sirius thinks Moody was a great auror but seems a little suspicious that, like Crouch, he might cross the good/bad line in supposed service to the good.
Why is Hermione out to get Rita? Does she hate the Press?
I suspect as a minority that is most vulnerable to media lies and distortion (because wizard and witch prejudice against half and mud bloods is so easy to inflame) Hermione is learning to hate the Press. Right now, though, it’s just Rita that Hermione is out to get. Interesting that Hermione wants to get her on her own; I guess she’s realized after Buckbeak’s hearing in Prisoner and SPEW that Ron and Harry don’t have it in them to do effective pro bono work.
Any Half-Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows pointers here?
