Harry Potter First Edition Auction: $100 G’s?

In case you have some extra cash on hand and you’re looking for a safe investment, Auction Traders wants you to know that there is a Potter auction in Dallas not to be missed:

First edition Harry Potter trove highlights June Rare Books Auction in Dallas June 01, 2009

DALLAS – An extensive grouping of original Harry Potter editions – including three complete sets, two of which are signed, and an original first printing English hardcover, with all first edition points – will be auctioned during Heritage Auction Galleries’ June 16-17 Grand Format Rare Books Auction. The trove of English and American first editions could bring more than $100,000.

“In October of 2007 we sold an ex-library copy of the first edition hardback of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for $33,460,” said James Gannon, Director of Rare Books at Heritage,“ and in February of this year, we sold a first edition paperback with an illustrated card signed by J.K. Rowling mounted to the endpaper for $19,120. Our current copy of the first edition hardback in excellent condition and with no library markings is superior to both earlier copies we handled, and should command an impressive price.”

If anyone wants to make a collective bid, I have a few old X-Men comic books and a coin jar to throw in the hat.

(H/T to Arrabella for this find)

The original Mad Magazine Star Trek satire (with Kirk certainly transformed), unfortunately torn out (tossed the rest of the mag)? I’ll take bids. Oh, and I have some signed books by this Granger guy….
