MuggleNet Academia: Harry Potter and the Brotherly Love Cup

I join MuggleNet’s Keith Hawk for conversation with Profs Karen Wendling and Patrick McCauley about how Chestnut Hill College‘s Interdisciplinary Honors Program used Harry Potter to explore the coming-of-age novel and the hero’s journey. And how the town of Chestnut Hill celebrates the Hogwarts Saga every year in conjunction with the College and a Quid-Atlantic Quidditch Tournament of university teams and all-comers.

If you enjoyed the ‘Father Symbolism in Prisonerguest post by Prof McCauley, you’ll love this podCast. The folks at Chestnut Hill are taking the lead in shaping what the future of serious reading in fandom will look like — plenty of fun without the Theme Park excess (and pusillanimous postmodern political partisanship…) and the heart of it all is collegial discussion of literary artistry, meaning, and experience. I cannot get to Philadelphia this weekend but I’m already planning to travel to next year’s Harry Potter Conference and Festival at Chestnut Hill. See you there?
