There were no responses to the Discussion Point, so I’ll assume there is no interest (or you’re all busy cooking cranberry sauce and dried cherries — yummm). Protests about incorrect answers above are welcome.
Actually our power went out and we are eating out, yuck. Oh well. But we are more thankful than anything that we are healthy and still together this holiday.
I missed 3 out of 10. Not too shabby.
I guess number 9 said “DD swore” that no one will be killed, and he did not swear in the book about his statement. He is human after all we find out in the end, he can die.
I guess I went to sleep on 5, since I know that to be true, just wrote the wrong answer.
On 2, Ron says Percy tells them to play to their strengths. Imagine that. We find in the end he does the right thing.
That was a great review of chapter 14, I caught some things I missed before and when you know the ending it is great hindsight.
I’ll have to think more about the importance and get back to ya.
Happy Holidays.
Excuse me, Professor.
On number 6 above, in my copy the speaker was not George Weasley but his friend, Lee Jordan. Which would have made the correct answer false. Do I have a rare miss-printed version?
Also, did not post any answers as you said not to do so above. Thought that included the discussion point.
And BTW if 6 is false, it breaks your pattern of 1, 3, 3, 3. So were you under the influence of Dante here or not?;-)
gak- I failed the test. I’d love to discuss, but I don’t have the book (until DH I read all library copies), so it’s hard to remember, even with the questions as clues, exactly what happened.
the diary scene is brilliant, I think, because Rowling shows exactly what she’s doing to us and yet most of us completely missed it– Rowling and Riddle both lead us on a merry chase that awakens curiousity about the chamber and mistrust of Hagrid. It also sets up the confrontation with Riddlemort in the chamber, so I think it’s pretty dang important. 😀
perhaps after the big meal other folks with access to CoS can contribute more meaningfully. 😀

What did we learn in Ch. 14? Well, we know that Riddle had a diary that was diabolic at best, and that he was an orphan who did not want to go back to an orphanage, he knew information on why Hagrid was expelled. He knew Hagrid kept pets like giant spiders. This chapter deals with the doubt that the diary but into Harry’s mind, and Hermione trying to tell Harry that Riddle had the wrong guy. We know that Draco and his Dad are very against muggles and muggle borns. We know that they knew about the chamber and that Slytherins were not being attacked, just muggle related Gryffindors. The trio knew Hagrid would never set an animal on a Gryffindor, much less muggles or the trio. So why the doubt in Harry? Since Snape is a Slytherin, automatically it appears he is part of something to do with the Malfoys and the attacks. That puts doubt in our minds that Snape could be bad. We see the invisibility cloak used, then we later find out it is a hallow. Dumbledor gave it to Harry, it was in his possesion and we later found out he was at one time looking for the hallows and did find out about them with Grindewald. That’s all I can see at the moment.
