Thanksgiving Thoughts on Terrific Treats from Fantastic Beasts!

Image result for wizarding world of harry potter foodWe hope that all our readers have had a lovely day of gratitude with loved ones and friends. We are, here at Hogwarts Professor, very grateful for you! Though many people really focus on the serious side of being thankful, we hope you already know that we do take gratitude seriously, but we also take seriously the other factor that is critical to Thanksgiving: food! J.K. Rowling has said that one of her favorite books, when she was younger, was Elizabeth Goudge’s The Little White Horse. One of her main reasons for loving the book was the fact that readers are always told “what was in the sandwiches.”  That is undoubtedly one of the reasons many of us love the Hogwarts Adventures as well. We are here for the food!

While we try to recover from a turkey coma, let’s have some fun with some of of the Wizarding Eats from the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Spoilers Ahead, Beware!

One of  the most fun things about the new film is its use of food. Newt’s creatures all have unique dietary needs, from Mooncalf pellets to raw meat to cockroaches, but the human food in this one is just divine!

The Wizarding World is a place that always has good eats: Harry’s favorite treacle tart, Honeydukes sweeties,  Mrs. Weasley’s home cooking.

Fantastic Beasts adds to the magical repertoire of food, and doubtless new cookbooks will spring up. When they do, here are the treats that would be most magical to make.

1. Jacob’s Grandma’s Goodies. Who doesn’t want to learn how to cook like a Kowalski? Let’s hope cookbooks will soon let us in on Jacob’s family secrets so we can make goodies so great we could expect to use them as collateral for a major loan.

2. Queen of all Strudel. The shortcuts witches can take on cookery are, of course, the envy of all us Muggle cooks. Queenie’s fabulous strudel, while paving her way to Jacob’s heart, also wins us over. Everyone will want to know how to make this supremely beautiful dessert, part of what Jacob claims is the greatest meal he’s ever eaten, even if we can’t make it shape and bake in midair.

3. A Menagerie of Pastry

While we are all cheering at Newt’s cleverness in making sure Jacob can finally open his bakery, we should not be surprised  at the sweeties available in a place funded by silver Occamy shells and owned by a fella who has been inside that case/ark/safari park. The pastries in Kowalski’s Bakery are shaped like Demiguises, Nifflers, and other fantastic creatures Jacob has doubtless recalled through his memory modification, and they look both adorable and delicious. It would be surprising if the Wizarding World did not not starting hawking these beauties from trollies and shoppes in the immediate future, but many of us would also like the secrets of making these fantastic treats.

What are your favorite Harry Potter foods? Do you think these Fantastic Beasts additions belong in the lofty company of Pumpkin Pasties and Butterbeer?
