NEW YORK (AP) — J.K. Rowling’s magical, Midas touch has landed her on the cover of Entertainment Weekly as the magazine’s entertainer of the year.

The magazine said the “Harry Potter” author, who has sold nearly 400 million copies of her boy-wizard series that’s been adapted into a megasuccessful movie franchise, deserved props for getting “people to tote around her big, old-fashioned printed-on-paper books as if they were the hottest new entertainment devices on the planet.”

Rowling was in a class by herself on the magazine’s list of the year’s top entertainers, which was separated by editors into five other categories that evoke school cliques: prodigies, class clowns, most popular, most buzzed-about and valedictorians.

I’m still hoping she wins Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” Award for 2007. Are there any other awards she could win? Should win? A Hugo? A Pulitzer? A Nobel Prize? Witch Weekly’s Most Winsome Witch? Here’s hoping that, now that the book tsunamis are history and only a few movie tidal surges remain, she can preserve the peace of her family and continue to write well without the distraction of and inevitable fascination with a public spotlight. Her ability to handle mind-boggling changes and temptations thus far is almost as make-believe and heroic as her fiction.

I haven’t gotten my copy of EW yet, am really looking forward to it. Since EW is a Time pub, in a way she *is* Time’s person of the year.

And yes, she should receive some big SF/Fantasy awards. To ignore her is ridiculous.
