Thoughts for the Serious Reader of Harry Potter

I think we’ll have to file this under both ‘Twilight’ and ‘Shared Text;’ who would have guessed that even our enemies hiding in caves in Pakistan are waiting eagerly for Mrs. Meyer to finish Midnight Sun? (H/T to James at TwilightNews)
Harper Lee‘s novel of growing up and learning to do the right, difficult thing was published 50 years ago today. I have to think To Kill a Mockingbird was read and re-read by the three authors discussed here most frequently — Joanne Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, and Suzanne Collins — and I suspect that most of us who discuss their books grew up with Mockingbird and the excellent film version as personal favorites.

Many folks here have seen the Eclipse film by now (along with the rest of the nation!), and perhaps even stood in ridiculous lines. Others of us are waiting for things to calm down a bit a before we brave the Cineplex (that’s me). In any case, we wanted a spot here at HogwartsProfessor for folks to post their thoughts on the film as an adaptation of the text (read: not to gush over the physiques of actors 🙂 ) after they’ve seen it.
Because the Twilight books are narrated by a single character, while a film can and almost always does show several perspectives, and because Meyer made the Bree Tanner manuscript available to the film makers and actors, the relationship between the text and screen may be particularly interesting.

Well, John, I went to see Twilight:Eclipse yestereve. Not bad as far as movies go. Best of the Twilight movies so far.
But as I left the theatre, I noticed a lot of middle-aged women attending the movie along with their teenage daughters – both wearing “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” T-shirts and dark, gothic makeup. [Read more…]
