J. K. Rowling’s signature charity that supports the deinstitutionalisation of children: the Lumos Foundation will shortly be holding it’s annual charity gala. This year it will be a virtual event scheduled for Saturday October 2nd 3:30 – 4:30 PM EST (8:30 – 9:30 PM GMT). You may remember some past events such as the 2018 event with Whoopi Goldberg, but this year with Covid precautions, it will be an on line activity allowing even more people to become involved.
The Gala will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and will feature J. K. Rowling reading excepts from The Tales of Beadle the Bard and with ticket prices starting from $25 this could be a great way to donate to this charity.

The Lumos Global Virtual Gala will bring together supporters striving for a better future, where every child is raised in a safe, loving home, supported by family to help them thrive.
For the first time, the Lumos gala will be virtual, allowing the Lumos community – valued donors, board members, youth advocates, celebrities, and so many more – to join together for a vibrant gala program.
Sponsors and VIP ticket holders will also be able to participate in a virtual table experience, including live, video interaction with your guests.
The event will include J. K. Rowling reading from The Tales of Beadle the Bard the book published in 2008 that has all of it’s profits donated to Lumos ($17 million as of January 2010). Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin will host the evening and he will be joined by:
The Olivier award winning and Tony nominated actress Noma Dumezweni, star of the initial cast of The Cursed Child both in the west End and on Broadway.
Singer songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor who as a Lumos ambassador visited orphanages in Moldova and Ukraine.
Alumni of the Harry Potter films and long time Lumos ambassadors Evanna Lynch and Bonnie Wright. In 2016 Evanna and Bonnie travelled to Haiti to see the charity’s work first hand.
In honour of the chairman and CEO of Scholastic Inc. who died this year, J. K. Rowling will present the inaugural Richard Robinson Illumination Award for young self advocates who are “raising their voices to change the world”.
