Help ‘MuggleNet Academia’ Win a 2013 Podcast Award!
A Message from Keith Hawk, Host and Producer of ‘MuggleNet Academia,’ the Podcast for Serious Readers of Harry Potter:
Hello, HogwartsProfessor — MuggleNetAcademia Family!
I am incredibly honored to announce that MuggleNet Academia, featuring John Granger, the Hogwarts Professor, has received a nomination for the 2013 Podcast Awards in the category of Education. This is all due to what John and the guests of our show have brought to the discussion table and the fans are rewarding us with this nomination.
I would like nothing more than for MNet Academia to be announced as the winner for this award, but to do that, we have to beat some very good podcast competition in our category. I will need ALL of you to help with this by not only casting your votes, but helping to spread the word just like you have when you’ve heard a program that you really liked. i.e., Tweet, Like, Blog, Message all about the award nomination and how to vote.
The MuggleNet Podcast Family has been nominated in 4 categories, so while you are voting for the MuggleNet Academia show, I would like to ask that you also cast your vote for our other shows:
- Alohomora! – People’s Choice and Entertainment Categories
- Hogwarts Radio – Best Produced Category
- MuggleNet Academia – Education Category
MuggleNet Academia: Harry Potter and the Brotherly Love Cup
I join MuggleNet’s Keith Hawk for conversation with Profs Karen Wendling and Patrick McCauley about how Chestnut Hill College‘s Interdisciplinary Honors Program used Harry Potter to explore the coming-of-age novel and the hero’s journey. And how the town of Chestnut Hill celebrates the Hogwarts Saga every year in conjunction with the College and a Quid-Atlantic Quidditch Tournament of university teams and all-comers.
If you enjoyed the ‘Father Symbolism in Prisoner‘ guest post by Prof McCauley, you’ll love this podCast. The folks at Chestnut Hill are taking the lead in shaping what the future of serious reading in fandom will look like — plenty of fun without the Theme Park excess (and pusillanimous postmodern political partisanship…) and the heart of it all is collegial discussion of literary artistry, meaning, and experience. I cannot get to Philadelphia this weekend but I’m already planning to travel to next year’s Harry Potter Conference and Festival at Chestnut Hill. See you there?
What is Harry Potter canon?
We’ve discussed it here and on Mugglenet Academia, but a local Children’s Lit student is trying to do some research on it. Please help her out by filling out a 1-question survey and passing the link on to other Potterphiles. Many thanks!
MISTI-Con MuggleNet Academia: Janet Batchler and the Films
MISTI-Con in Laconia, New Hampshire was a blast! This joint production of The Group That Shall Not Be Named and MuggleNet.com was set on a lake-side resort whose buildings, Big Top tent, and props (can you say, “Life Size replica of the Fountain of Magical Brethren”? Wow.) had a Hogwarts feel, especially with the nearly 500 attendees who all seemed to have five or six Wizarding World outfits to change into. The Beauxbatons uniforms were stunning and the spot-on Gilderoy Lockhart outfit Clay Dockery wore to the MNet podcast still makes me laugh.
And the live podcast with MNet host Keith Hawk and special guest Janet Batchler was a big hit. Janet is a long time friend of this blog and she blew the full house (well, tent) away with her insights and observations as a screenwriter about what worked and didn’t work in the film adaptations of the Hogwarts Saga. Listen to the whole thing; I’m no friend of the movies but I loved talking with Janet about Hollywood realities as well as the effects of the Franchise on Fandom’s experience of story.
Two other MISTI-Con notes below concerning Leaky Con and a delightful Potter Pundit I met with a mind-blowing idea: [Read more…]
